Why Jungle Disk isn’t a good option for your VPS

I started using Jungle Disk for my Dedicated Server at Softlayer. It’s a rather beefy Dual Quad Core Xeon E5420 with 12GB of memory. It’s not a sloth at all. The setup was simple, I selected the directories I wished to have backed up and also configured email alerts. I’ve had no problems with Jungle Disk on my dedicated server.

However, this is not the case with my two VPS servers. Jungle Disk seems to use quite a bit of memory over time, as you can see below this is after Jungle Disk has been running for 4 days.

As you can see out of the 256MB of memory allocated to the VM, jungle disk is taking up 29.9% which seems to occur after a couple of days.

I brought it up with Jungle Disk support, they said to upgrade and I still had the same memory usage if not worse afterwards. At which point they replied with.

Thanks for the update.
At this time, there is no resolution to the large memory footprint, however, we are aware.
Regarding the connection to Amazon… Jungle Disk utilizes many EC2 instances as our back end infrastructure. Thus, you’ll always see connections to Amazon AWS.

Shortly after unveiling the sexiest e-dictionary known to man, the much anticipated UNIT2 conglomerate received its own teaser site, complete with photos and a few extra details you should know. While it has yet to lose its mystique, we now know (officially, at least) that the base will act as a DVD player, TV tuner, access point, charging station, hard drive, and a speaker station. Aside from sporting an SD slot and USB connectivity, this beauty will handle music, movies, photos, eBooks, and WiFi streaming without breaking a sweat. Mechanically, you can expect an automatic sliding door, detachable display, slot-loaded CD / DVD deck, and a 78-key controller to manage the fun. No word yet on the price, but be sure to peek the additional photos below.

Microsoft changes mind, agrees to fix IE’s URI handler

Microsoft agrees to release a patch to fix some of the security issues but not all in Internet Explorers URI Handler. I don't understand why Microsoft has such a lazy stance on security, I want to use Internet Explorer just as securely as any other browser. One mis-typed url after a fresh install of Windows could cause malicious software to gain entry to me desktop.

Official Jailbreak for iPhone 2.1 Firmware Released OSX Only

There is now an official iphone-dev.org version of QuickPwn that supports the 2.1 firmware released by Apple on friday.
Some of the popular press and blogs have been backing the opposition. :-) While criticism and competition is fine it should be reported correctly, with all the facts. and certainly minus the FUD. Do you guys think we are “less and less relevant with each passing day” ?
